About MURPHYS
Murphys is known as the Queen of the Sierra. It was a bustling and prosperous gold-rush era town, attracting many with the promise of gold, including outlaws such as Black Bart and Joaquin Murietta. Today, the town is still bustling, but the wild days are long gone. The town of Murphys is also surrounded by many world-renowned vineyards, such as Ironstone and Stevenot. LOCATION
Murphys is located in the central Sierra Nevada mountains between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. Murphys is an easy 2 ½ hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area, and only 2 hours to Sacramento. Yosemite National Park is close enough to Murphys to make it a day trip; however, it is a great vacation spot as well!
EDUCATION
Calaveras County is home to approximately 7,000 children who are served by the local school system. There are 4 public school districts. The Calaveras County office of Superintendent provides guidance and leadership for the instructional programs from kindergarten through high school. There are also several private schools in the area.
